People love to buy... but they hate being sold.
As testament to this, I'll tell you that I'm an evangelist for using more efficient lighting whenever possible. There are so many options available today that when I see someone wasting money for no reason, I typically speak up.
The other day I walked into a Dunkin Donuts and noticed that the store was using T12 lights.
I asked the guy behind the counter if the manager was available because I was going to break it to him that he was pissing money away for no reason.

Dear Diary: So much confusion in the world, even as the end is near. Of course, I
didn't say the end of the world. I said confusion in the
world as the end is near. I don't mean the "end of the world", I don't
believe that Mayan Calendar crap for a second. What I'm talking about
is the end of incandescent bulbs, magnetic ballasts, T-12 lighting and
the rest of that totally inefficient garbage that keeps getting
installed indicating a general cluelessness in the marketplace.

Dear Diary: I hate people. Especially when they write slanderous things about me...
Check out this d-bag's post about how compact fluorescent lights can
explode. False! Let me explain something to you, CFLs DO NOT EXPLODE.
Doesn't happen. Contrary to what you remember from watching Repo-Man, unlike people, compact fluorescent lights don't just explode.

Dear Diary: My old boss recently launched a new LED lightbulb which competes with directly with compact fluorescents in terms of energy efficiency, and that has a life expectancy of 17
years.
The problem for many people will be the cost of the bulb: $50.00 each (ONE BULB!)
As opposed to, say, buying me for $2.99 and saving 70% over the common incandescent bulb, a customer could pay $50.00 and get another, say, 10% savings on top of that.

Dear Diary: My friend Toby uses compact fluorescent grow lights at his house for a horticultural hobby. He's got a few, but I only really got to check out two of them up close.
I was hanging out with him the other day because, with the exception of public transportation to various places, my movement is sort of limited due to my car being gone. Luckily, Toby lives nearby.
He likes this one from Hydrofarm in particular quite a bit...
I was checking it out and it's pretty impressive, at least to me.
There are at least two that he's using for his indoor plants because they throw off less heat than HID lamps.

Dear Diary:
Being unemployed in this market is no fun. I had three job interviews today but no takers. I've got the
skills
to add value and still some people don't seem to get it. They're totally oblivious.
The lack of awareness is somewhat pervasive. I have to keep reminding myself of that. I read somewhere that people tend to assume that others think the same way they do. For instance, they say that marathoners assume that everyone runs too... Clearly everyone doesn't, but apparently the thoughts still happen.

Dear Diary:
One of my best friends is a solid state. We both worked in this office building for a while. Anyway, I saw him last night and he was all like, "OHHHH, dude, check out the new issue of LED Lighting Times... It's got the review of the new iPad in it."
And he's waving this magazine in my face and I'm like, "Dude, I'm kind of ambivalent about the iPad."
And he's like, "OHHHH look at that multi-touch thing with the blah blah..."
Typical LED light behavior. They're endemically lonely.

Dear Diary:
Woke up this morning still a little irritated about my car. But I will reserve my contempt for the guys who stole it... and when I find them they're gonna be sorry. Meantime, it's back to public transport. It's another beautiful day out... At least I won't be marginalized by the weather.
I saw a billboard at the bus stop this morning (clearly sponsored by "consulting firm" Incandescents for Freedom) that showed a pretty housewife in a pearl necklace with a huge smile on her face screwing in an incandescent bulb. The tagline said "It Likes You Too!! An Ounce of Prevention is Worth a Pound of Cure."
Wait...what?

Dear Diary:
I woke up on not exactly the right side of the bed... a bit of a hangover as well. All gassy... smells like light beer and Phosphor. Ughh. For whatever reason can't get Lisa from undergrad out of my head. Why, I have no idea. She was really into me... but I never did anything about it... What the Hell was I thinking? She was pretty hot, no pun intended. I tried getting in touch with her again but she's nowhere to be found.
